Astroseek – Horoscope Birth Chart Calculator

A birth chart calculator turns your date, time and place of birth into a map of where the Sun, Moon and planets appeared from that spot at that moment. Enter your details below to see your Sun, Moon and Rising signs, the planets in each sign and house, and the aspects between them.

For a reliable Rising sign and house layout you need an accurate birth time and the correct UTC offset for the day you were born. New charts use the tropical zodiac with Whole Sign houses; the initial reference example uses Placidus. Treat what you see as symbolic material for reflection, not as a forecast or a verdict about who you are.

How to create your birth chart

Click Create a new chart to open the form. Every field matters, but some matter more than others, so it is worth knowing what each one does before you fill it in.

  1. Your name – a label for the chart. It does not affect the calculation, so a nickname or initials work fine.
  2. Date of birth – day, month and year. Double-check the format; swapping day and month is one of the most common input mistakes.
  3. Time of birth – the local clock time on the day you were born. A birth certificate or hospital record is the best source. Family memory (“around lunchtime”) is useful but rarely precise.
  4. I do not know my exact birth time – tick this box if you have no reliable time. The chart is then marked “Unknown time” and uses 12:00 local time as a reference. The Ascendant, Midheaven (MC) and houses are hidden, because they cannot be calculated meaningfully without a real time (more on that below).
  5. Place of birth – choose from the list or enter coordinates.
  6. UTC offset at birth – the difference between local clock time and Coordinated Universal Time on your birth date. This is not always the same as today’s offset.

Choosing your place of birth

The list currently includes Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Hue, Can Tho, Hai Phong, Nha Trang and Da Lat. If you were born somewhere else, select Other location – enter coordinates and type the latitude and longitude of your birthplace. You can find these on most map services by searching for the town or hospital. Use the most reliable coordinates you can find, especially when comparing results near a sign or house boundary.

Vietnamese locations default to UTC+7. That is correct for most modern dates, but it is a starting point, not a guarantee. If you were born outside Vietnam, or in Vietnam several decades ago, check the offset that actually applied on your birth date before you save the chart.

What a natal chart shows, and how it differs from a daily horoscope

A natal chart (also called a birth chart or horoscope chart) is a snapshot of one moment: the positions of the Sun, Moon and planets as seen from your birthplace when you were born. It is personal because it depends on your exact time and location. Two people born on the same day in different cities, or a few hours apart, will have different charts.

A daily horoscope in a magazine or app is something else. It is usually written for an entire Sun sign, meaning roughly a twelfth of everyone, and describes the current sky in general terms. That is why your daily horoscope and your natal chart can seem to say unrelated things. One is a broad weather report; the other is a detailed map drawn for a single moment.

Sun, Moon and Rising: the three placements people ask about first

Most people know their Sun sign already. The Moon and Rising signs add depth, but they also depend more heavily on accurate input.

Placement What it is astronomically Common astrological theme How sensitive to birth time
Sun The Sun’s zodiac sign on your birth date Core identity, what you are working towards Low – changes sign about once a month; only matters if you were born near a sign change
Moon The Moon’s sign at your birth moment Emotional needs, comfort, instinctive reactions Medium – changes sign every two to three days
Rising (Ascendant) The sign on the eastern horizon at your birth moment First impressions, approach to new situations High – changes roughly every two hours on average, faster or slower depending on sign and latitude

The “themes” column reflects how astrologers commonly describe these placements. They are interpretive traditions, not measurements of your personality.

Planets, signs, houses and aspects

Once your chart appears, you can click the planet buttons on the wheel or switch between the tabs below it. Here is what each layer means.

Planets

The Planets tab lists ten bodies: the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. In astrology, each is associated with an area of life. Mercury is linked to thinking and communication, Venus to relationships and values, Mars to drive and conflict, Saturn to structure and limits, and so on.

Signs

Each planet sits in one of the twelve zodiac signs, which astrologers read as the style or tone of that planet’s expression. Mars in Capricorn and Mars in Pisces are both “drive,” but traditionally described in very different ways.

Houses

The Houses tab divides the chart into twelve sections, each associated with a life area such as home, work, partnerships or friendships. A planet’s house is read as where its themes tend to show up. Houses depend on your Rising sign, which is why they need an accurate birth time.

Aspects

The Aspects tab shows the angles between planets. The chart offers the filters All aspects, Harmonious or Challenging. Try not to read those labels too literally. In most astrological traditions, a “challenging” aspect describes tension that can push growth, and a “harmonious” one describes ease that can also become complacency. Neither is good or bad on its own.

Elemental balance

The Overview tab includes an elemental balance across fire, earth, air and water. It counts the ten planets with equal weight, so the Moon and Pluto each count as one. Other calculators may weight the Sun, Moon and Rising more heavily, so your balance can look different elsewhere. That is a difference in method, not an error.

Why your birth time matters so much

The Earth turns a full circle every day, so the sign rising on the eastern horizon keeps changing. If your recorded time is off by an hour, your Sun and most planets will stay in the same signs, but your Rising sign may shift, and with Whole Sign houses every planet can move into a different house along with it.

This is why the calculator handles unknown times differently. When you tick I do not know my exact birth time, the chart is labelled “Unknown birth time,” calculated for 12:00 local time as a reference point, and shown without an Ascendant, MC or houses. You will see planets in signs and the aspects between them, but no Rising sign and no house placements.

If you do not know your exact time:

  • Focus on the Sun, the planet signs and the aspects between slower planets, which change little across a single day.
  • Be careful with the Moon. It moves roughly 12–15 degrees a day, so the noon position may not match your actual birth moment. If the Moon changed sign on your birth date, your Moon sign is uncertain, and aspects involving the Moon may also be off.
  • Do not guess a time just to get a Rising sign. Entering an arbitrary time produces houses that look precise but are not.
  • Ask relatives, check baby books, hospital discharge papers or the original birth record. Even narrowing the window to “between 6 and 8 in the morning” helps, and if you find a reliable time later you can create a new chart with it.

Getting the UTC offset right

The UTC offset tells the calculator how to convert your local clock time into a single universal time. Enter the wrong offset and the chart is effectively drawn for a different moment, usually one or more hours away, which can change your Rising sign and houses.

Two things trip people up:

  • Historical time zones. A country’s standard time is not fixed forever. Check the historical offset for your birthplace and date rather than assuming the current offset applies.
  • Daylight saving time. Some locations use daylight saving time during part of the year. Check whether it applied on the specific date and in the place where you were born.

A historical time zone database or a reputable time-and-date website can tell you the offset for a specific place and date. The form asks you to select the offset; verify it before calculating.

Whole Sign houses vs Placidus: why calculators disagree

New charts on this page use Whole Sign Houses. In this system, whichever sign is rising becomes the entire first house, the next sign becomes the second house, and so on. Each house is exactly one sign.

Many websites default to Placidus, which divides the sky based on time and produces houses of unequal size. Its house boundaries can fall partway through signs. The reference chart shown when the app first loads uses Placidus, which is why its house layout follows different rules from a chart you create yourself.

So if another calculator puts your Venus in the 10th house and this one says the 11th, both can be correct within their own system. When comparing planet signs and aspects, check that both calculators use the same zodiac and input; calculation conventions and rounding may also differ. Large differences in planet signs usually point to an input problem: a different time, offset or location.

The app also notes that charts are calculated with Astronomy Engine, in the tropical zodiac with geocentric positions. Tropical astrology ties the signs to the seasons; sidereal astrology, used in Vedic traditions, ties them to the stars and places most planets in a different sign. If you compare this chart with a Vedic chart, expect differences.

A quick example

To show how the output looks, we created a non-personal test chart called “Editorial Example”: 1 January 2000, 12:00, Ho Chi Minh City, UTC+7. The app returned a Capricorn Sun, a Scorpio Moon and an Aries Rising, labelled Tropical and Whole Sign.

With Aries rising in Whole Sign houses, Aries is the 1st house, Taurus the 2nd, and so on round to Pisces as the 12th. The Capricorn Sun therefore falls in the 10th house, a house astrologers traditionally associate with career and public life. Changing the birth time can change the Rising sign and the house assignments, so keep the time consistent when comparing calculators.

This example is for illustration only. It is not a description of anyone born on that date.

Reading your chart without fatalism

A birth chart works best as a prompt for reflection, not as a set of instructions. Some practical ways to use it:

  • Start with questions, not conclusions. Instead of “Saturn in my 7th house means my relationships will be hard,” try “What do I expect from commitment, and where did those expectations come from?”
  • Read the whole picture. A single placement taken alone tends to sound dramatic. Astrologers look at how signs, houses and aspects interact.
  • Notice what resonates and what does not. If a description does not fit you, that is useful information, not something to force.
  • Keep big decisions separate. Health, money, career moves and relationships deserve real-world information and, where appropriate, professional advice. A chart is not evidence for or against any of them.

Astrology is a symbolic language with a long history. It can help people put words to their experiences, but it does not measure personality and has not been shown to predict events.

Frequently asked questions

What does a birth chart calculator do?

It takes your date, time and place of birth and calculates where the Sun, Moon and planets were in the zodiac at that moment, as seen from your birthplace. It then arranges them into signs, houses and aspects so you can read the chart using astrological conventions.

Can I make a natal chart if I don’t know my birth time?

Yes. Tick I do not know my exact birth time. The chart uses 12:00 local time as a reference and hides the Ascendant, MC and houses, so you will not get a Rising sign or house placements. Your Sun sign and most planet signs remain meaningful because they move slowly. The Moon can move significantly during a day, so treat its sign and degree as approximate, especially near a sign boundary.

What happens if I enter the wrong UTC offset?

The chart will be calculated for the wrong moment, typically one or more hours off. Planet signs usually stay the same, but your Rising sign and houses can change. Check the offset that applied on your birth date, including any historical time zone change or daylight saving time, then create the chart again.

Why does my chart look different on another website?

The most common reasons are a different house system (this page uses Whole Sign; many sites use Placidus), a different zodiac (tropical vs sidereal), or slightly different input such as time, offset or coordinates. If planet signs differ, check your input first.

Is this the official Astro-Seek website?

No. This page is a birth chart calculator published on Fengshui Elite. It is not the Astro-Seek website and is not presented as affiliated with or endorsed by it. Charts here are calculated with Astronomy Engine, as noted in the app.

My birthplace isn’t in the list. What should I do?

Choose Other location – enter coordinates and enter the latitude and longitude of your birthplace. Then set the UTC offset that applied there on your birth date. It will not necessarily be UTC+7.

Can my birth chart predict my future or tell me who to marry?

No. Astrology is a symbolic tradition for reflection. It is not a predictive science, and a chart cannot determine your personality, relationships, health or finances. Use it to think about patterns and questions, and base important decisions on practical information and qualified advice.

Can I save or download my chart?

Yes. You can save a chart to Your library, download the chart wheel as an SVG image with Download SVG, and export the chart details with Download data.

Calculation reference: Astronomy Engine documentation describes the astronomical position calculations. Astrological interpretations are a separate symbolic layer.
